Twelve years ago on a bathroom floor in a town that I am sure you know
I was trying hard not to lose my mind while tucking down my shirt
Then heading down to the bar again where my friends were drinking beer and gin
and I was hoping that maybe one of then would see that I was hurt
What a laugh, what a joke, that I can’t ever leave all of this behind
The answer seem to lie somewhere beyond the wine
In the rain somewhere, 2002 we sailed through the night underneath a crescent moon
or did we travel by canoe? My memory tends to fail.
We took shelter from the storm by a Pizza place across the lake
I remember you being oh so cold as we went back into the rain
What a laugh, what a joke, that I can’t ever leave all of this behind
The answer seem to lie somewhere beyond the wine
There’s no doubt we had a really good time and the friends we made really changed our lives
some of them we’ll never see again, I’m really sad to say
Ol’ Cat wrote songs you could almost touch and Frank sang of friends he couldn’t save
None of this really matters that much, it was the year She passed away
What a laugh, what a joke, that I can’t ever leave all of this behind
The answer seem to lie somewhere beyond the wine
